A bushfire that has destroyed four homes and more than 3100 hectares of land in central Victoria has been contained.

Fire crews on Monday completed containment lines around the fire, which began when a controlled burn near Lancefield on public land jumped containment lines in hot weather and high winds six days ago.

Incident controller Peter West said more than 100 firefighters worked through Monday to contain the fire and black out hot spots ahead of warmer weather on Thursday and Friday.

He said temperatures will rise into the 30s on Thursday and Friday, with strong northerly winds ahead of a cool change on Friday.

"We have been strengthening the containment lines and blacking out the edges well, so we are confident going into the next few days," Mr West told AAP.

"We're confident, but we're not complacent, and we will certainly remain vigilant.

"If we can get through those two days, we'll be looking pretty good."

All roads in the area were open again but he warned visibility was still affected by smoke.

Victorian Environment Minister Lisa Neville, who was in Lancefield on Monday for a community meeting, says insurance teams have begun working with affected residents in a bid to compensate them quickly for losses.

"Hopefully we will have a clearer sense of both the damage and the cost over this week," the minister told reporters.

She said while last week the focus was on containing the fire, this week it will be on recovery, supporting the community and moving on with the independent investigation into how the fire broke containment lines and got out of control.

The report, which will be made public, is expected to be compiled in about three to four weeks.

The Victorian government had contributed $20,000 to ensure entry to the Lancefield Show on Sunday is free for all locals, Premier Daniel Andrews said.

"The Lancefield community has done it tough over the past week and the show will allow the community to come together to celebrate all that is good about the local area," he said.
