Vic govt rules out 'party house' ban

The Victorian government will increase protections for inner-city apartment dwellers but won't ban "party house" letting via airbnb.

The Victorian government has ruled out a ban on short-stay "party houses" but will bring in new protections for apartment residents.

Docklands Community Association president Roger Gardner, who sits on a government panel, wants a total ban on short-stay letting of apartments via websites such as airbnb.

"Changes do need to be made, but I don't believe they will go as far as Mr Gardner would like," Consumer Affairs Minister Jane Garrett told ABC Radio on Tuesday.
