Vic Labor MP overpaid $60k by mistake

A Victorian Labor government MP has repaid $60,000 he incorrectly received between 2014 and 2016.

Victoria's assistant treasurer has paid back $60,000 in allowances he unknowingly received as part of his government pay packet.

Preston MP Robin Scott mistakenly received the extra payments, meant for country MPs who have to stay in Melbourne during sitting weeks, between 2014 and 2016.

"When I became aware of the payroll error I made arrangements to repay this amount," Mr Scott told AAP on Tuesday.

He confirmed that he learned of the error in September 2016 when contacted by the Department of Parliamentary Services and has since repaid the money.
