Vic man admits abusing friend's daughter

An elderly Victorian man has pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent assault over incidents with his friends' daughter in the 1980s.

An 80-year-old Melbourne man has admitted indecently assaulting the teenage daughter of a couple he was friends with in the 1980s.

The man, who cannot be named, had known the girl since she was two, and later commenced a relationship with the girl's mother, the Victorian County Court heard on Thursday.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, the woman, now in her 40s, said when the man started seeing her mother he also wanted to have a secret relationship with her.

She said when the abuse started she felt confused and embarrassed because she didn't understand what the man wanted from her.

"I was scared my mother would find out and blame me," she told the court.

The man on Thursday pleaded guilty to two representative charges of indecent assault relating to a string of incidents that occurred in 1984 and 1985 when the victim was 14 and 15 years old and he was 50.

The court heard he first assaulted the girl on the night of his 50th birthday party, sneaking up to her room and kissing her on the mouth.

He and his wife later took her out to a show, during which he touched and rubbed her, the court heard.

On another occasion when the families were on holiday, the victim woke up to find the man in her bed, with his finger penetrating her.

In a statement, the victim told the court she was still suffering depression and anxiety as a result of the abuse 30 years later.
