A Melbourne man, 21, has been arrested for alleged acts of animal cruelty towards a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy.

A Melbourne man has been arrested for beating a 10-month-old puppy.

Police arrested the 21-year-old man on Wednesday after a four-week search for the man and the Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy, which is believed to have been severely beaten.

The North Melbourne man was questioned for alleged aggravated animal cruelty.

The pup was rescued and is being held at the North Melbourne police station.
