A man has died in a Melbourne car crash just hours into the new year.
The man was going west on South Road in Hampton, in Melbourne's southeast, when he lost control of his car and hit a power pole at 6.50am.
He was the only one in the car and he died at the scene.
The 2015 provisional road toll stands at one, up from none at the same point in 2014.
