Vic man dragged with car after truck smash

A Melbourne motorist has survived being dragged several kilometres along the Hume Freeway wedged under the front of a semi-trailer after collision.

A Melbourne motorist has survived unscathed after his car became wedged under the front of a truck in the city's north and was dragged for several kilometres.

The tangle occurred during the Wednesday evening peak on the Hume Freeway at Thomastown when the truck changed lanes and clipped the car, dragging it under the front of the truck, police said.

The truck driver was unaware he was dragging a car with him until the driver began to wave orange electrical equipment to catch his eye.

The truck driver will receive fines for failing to give way, and a vehicle defect.

Senior Constable Scott Cowan from Epping Highway Patrol urged motorists to take care in the wet.

"It's lucky that no-one was hurt in this incident, and it could have had a far worse outcome," he said.
