Vic mother's plea after boy stabbed

A Victorian mother is pleading for youth violence to end after her son was stabbed while walking a friend home from a party.

A mother has pleaded for youth violence to end after her 14-year-old son was set upon while walking a friend home from a Melbourne party.

Ben Phillips was attacked by a group of men in Cranbourne on Saturday night, suffering lacerations to his chest.

Ben's mother Leanne Phillips said knives were too readily available and violence among youths needed to stop.

"He was just doing a favour, walking a friend home and they just got him," she told Fairfax Radio on Monday.

"It needs to stop. Next time it might be someone else's kid and they might not survive."

She said her son was making sure a girl made it home safely.

The Narre Warren teenager remains in hospital.
