The search for severed body parts in a Melbourne river will continue into a fourth day.

A member of the public found another piece of the corpse along the Maribyrnong River about 11am on Saturday.

Police won't confirm what body part it is, and it's not know whether it was found in the water or on the river bank.

It comes two days after an arm and other remains were discovered floating in the same stretch of river in Moonee Ponds.

A severed forearm with a distinctive red devil tattoo was found near the Boathouse restaurant on Thursday.

Another limb and a bag of flesh were found later the same day upstream.

Police believe the remains had been there for up to a week.

Police divers have been searching the water with the help of sonar equipment, focusing on a bridge about two kilometres from the restaurant.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman says water police will continue the effort on Sunday.

An image of the tattoo has been released in a bid to identify the body.
