Vic promised new schools

The Victorian government has promised 13 new schools by 2018, with the private sector responsible for financing, designing, building, and maintenance.

Up to 13 new schools have been promised in Victorian growth areas under a public-private partnership.

The state government says the project is estimated to cost around $223 million, with the private sector responsible for designing, building and maintaining the schools for 25 years.

"This approach means teachers and principals can focus on providing Victorian children with the best education possible, rather than painting walls and fixing broken windows," said Treasurer Michael O'Brien.

The government is calling for expressions of interest for the project, which will close on November 13.

The 13 schools, to be built across Melbourne and its outskirts, will be ready by 2018.
