Vic runaway groom's wife still loves him

A Melbourne woman says she still loves her new husband who skipped out on her, and police.

A Melbourne bride says she still loves her runaway groom who skipped out on his bail - and her.

Belinda Dulevski was in court on Tuesday to support her new husband, Murat Shomshe, 33, who was arrested that morning after a week on the run.

She waved to Shomshe at his brief appearance and told reporters outside the Victorian County Court she still loved him.

Dulevski has forfeited $10,000 she was required to put up as part of conditions imposed by Judge Richard Maidment when he released Shomshe last week.

Shomshe had sought weekend release so he could marry Ms Dulevski, telling Judge Maidment he would lose his $6000 deposit if his wedding was cancelled.

He was supposed to return on July 27 to the court where he is due to face trial for charges of reckless conduct endangering life, handing stolen goods and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Instead, he fled, reportedly while his new wife was in the shower.

In court on Tuesday, Shomshe's barrister James McQuillan said the trial should be adjourned because of the adverse publicity the escape had caused.

"I'll be making an application for the matter to be adjourned because of the adverse publicity," Mr McQuillan told the court.

"It's been all over the news."

Prosecutor Danielle Guesdon opposed the application, saying the publicity could be dealt with by the judge providing instructions.

Judge Mark Taft adjourned the matter until Wednesday morning.
