A violent and high-risk sex offender has escaped from a Victorian facility for a second time, despite wearing two ankle bracelets designed to track his every movement.
Police say an alarm was triggered when Sean Andrew Carmody-Coyle, 28, fled Corella Place overnight on Friday, but he hasn't been located.
Corella Place, near Ararat, is a transitional facility for sex offenders who have completed their prison sentences.
Detective Inspector Ian Campbell says the fleeing man is likely armed with five kitchen knives and shouldn't be approached.
"He has significant prior convictions for violence and serious sexual assaults against women," he told reporters.
Carmody-Coyle had been serving the second of a five-year court supervision order which dictated he live at the facility and adhere to a curfew.
He was wearing two ankle bracelets, one that sounds an alarm when he leaves the facility and another GPS tracking device.
Police say the first bracelet triggered the alarm at 1.08am (AEDT) on Friday but aren't sure what has happened with the second bracelet.
Bracelets were rolled out at the facility after several escapes.
Carmody-Coyle fled the facility last year but was found in a nearby paddock the next day.
