Vic shooting 'mistaken identity': police

Shots fired at a house in Truganina - the second such shooting in the suburb in three days - may be a case of mistaken identity, police say.

A second drive-by shooting in just three days in the western Melbourne suburb of Truganina may be a case of mistaken identity, a detective says.

Three adults were inside the Tyldan Way home as shots peppered the house and a car parked in the driveway but no-one was hurt, police said on Saturday.

Early Wednesday morning, shots were fired into a home occupied by members of the notorious Haddara family in nearby Vanderbilt Avenue.

Again, no-one was hurt but resident Rabih Haddara said a bullet skimmed the top of his head.

Detective Senior Constable Lindsay Lee of Wyndham Criminal Investigation Unit said police believe the home was shot at in error.

"The occupants have no criminal involvement. We believe this is a case of mistaken identity," she told AAP.

Det Lee said it's not clear whether the two shootings are linked.

"It's very hard to say. Our investigation has only just commenced so that's very difficult to determine," she said.
