Vic snorkeller in gallery moat charged

A man found snorkelling in the moat outside the National Gallery of Victoria has been charged with theft offences.

A snorkeller in the moat outside Melbourne's art gallery has been nabbed by police and charged with theft.

The 38-year-old man was charged late Friday with theft, handling stolen goods, going equipped to steal and possessing proceeds of crime after police responded to reports of a snorkeller in the moat outside the National Gallery of Victoria.

The man, of no fixed address, was refused bail and remanded overnight to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Police say he had previously been fished out of the same moat on Thursday and on that occasion was lodged for drunkenness and given a penalty notice.
