An inquest into the fatal shooting of suspected Melbourne teen terrorist will rake through 3000 pages of evidence.

Numan Haider, 18, was killed by a single shot to the head after he stabbed a Victoria Police officer and an Australian Federal Police officer outside the Endeavour Hills police station on September 23.

At a directions hearing for the inquest into the death on Thursday, Coroner John Olle said parts of the 3000 page brief of evidence would be redacted because of its sensitive nature.

Statements from 155 witnesses form part of the brief, which took months to collate, the court heard.

"An enormous amount of work has been done, but there's a lot more to be done," Coroner Olle said.

The inquest previously heard Haider was shot after he ignored a warning to drop his knife while stabbing a police officer.

Counsel assisting the coroner Jessica Wilby told the court last year Haider attacked the officers without warning.

He stabbed the Victorian officer in the arm and the AFP officer in the chest and face.

The police officers had arranged to meet with Haider over his recently cancelled Australian passport, the court was previously told.

Coroner Olle has issued suppression orders to protect the identity of Haider's family and the police officers involved.

Relatives of Haider were in court for the hearing on Thursday.

Another directions hearing will be held on September 7.
