Vic terror police get new vehicles

Victoria's anti-terror and specialist units will be getting new armoured vehicles.

Victoria's specialist terrorism response police teams are getting new armoured vehicles following a recent terror attack in Melbourne.

Police Minister Lisa Neville said the new vehicles are under order, built by specialist companies and based on similar vehicles used in Europe.

"They're available for the special operations group team and CIRT team, so they're really at that tactical operational level they'll be used," she told reporters.

Victoria Police's public order response team have also been given extra strong cars, Ms Neville said.

The order comes after an apartment worker was killed and a woman held hostage by terrorist Yacqub Khayre, who shot three special operations group police before he was killed in a hail of police bullets earlier this month in Brighton.
