Melbourne commuters are faced with being without trams again as the union plans another four-hour strike.
Yarra Trams issued a statement on Friday saying it had been notified by the Rail, Bus and Tram Union of threatened industrial action, which would include a four-hour strike on September 10.
Among other actions being threatened are the halting of services short of the intended destination on September 4 and 9, and a week-long ban on working overtime.
The union and Yarra Trams returned to negotiations on Friday - a day after trams in Melbourne's central business district were halted between 8.30am and 4pm, but talks have failed to break a stalemate.
Further meetings are planned for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
"While negotiations continue, we believe industrial action is unnecessary," Yarra Trams spokesman Simon Murphy said in a statement.
"We will do what we can to avoid disruptions to our customers."
Railway staff have also announced they will strike on September 4 between 10am and 2pm, which is expected to affect the network for most of the day.
"We do not want to inconvenience the travelling public, but they've left us with no choice," said union secretary Luba Grigorovitch on Thursday.
