Victorian bushfires: where and what to do

Bushfires are threatening a number of towns along Victoria's Great Ocean Road and residents have been advised to leave the area.

VICTORIAN BUSHFIRES

TOWNS EVACUATED

* Wye River

* Separation Creek

* Kennett River

* Grey River

* Lorne

* Allenvale

SAFETY

* Shelter for Wye River, Separation Creek, Kennett River and Grey River: Apollo Bay Leisure Centre, 34 Costin Street

* Shelter for Lorne and Allenvale: 1 Merrijig Drive, Torquay

* If staying indoors, close all exterior doors, windows and vents and turn off cooling system

* Wait in a room that has a door and/or a window to the outside, as it is critical to keep an eye on what is happening with the fire

LAST RESORT

* A large open area like a ploughed paddock, football oval or sporting reserve

* A large body of water like a dam, lake, river, the ocean or inground pool

* Try to protect yourself from the fire's heat

WATCH AND ACT

* The Sunbury fire burning at the northern end of Racecourse Road has been downgraded to a watch and act

* For help with English, call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450 and ask them to telephone VBIL
