Victorian fire captains call for EBA calm

Victorian volunteer fire captains have written to colleagues over the CFA pay deal, telling them "the sky will not fall" if the deal goes through.

Senior Victorian fire volunteers have written to colleagues telling them "the sky will not fall" if the CFA's controversial pay deal is passed.

The email, also posted to the Moe Fire Brigade Facebook page, was sent by three brigade captains who are also members of Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria.

In the post, the captains say the new pay deal is not as bad as it is being portrayed and the role of volunteers would remain "largely unchanged" under it.

"Simply put; the sky will not fall as a result of this EBA," they wrote.

The trio said the latest pay agreement was not the "biggest issue" facing the CFA and its volunteers and if a positive cultural change is to happen, cooperation was needed by all levels.

Their letter comes as Premier Daniel Andrews called for calm earlier in the week.

Months of escalating tension over a proposed deal between the CFA and the United Firefighters Union boiled over recently with threats to MPs, fighting in a newsagent's, tension at fire stations and high profile resignations.

Emergency services minister Jane Garrett quit rather than push the deal through and the CFA board was sacked for not endorsing it.

Earlier on Saturday, in a show of unity, volunteer and career firefighters held a sausage sizzle in Melton to raise money for the Alfred Hospital burns unit.
