Victorian govt moving on from bully row

The Victorian government has selected a new small business minister to replace Adem Somyurek who resigned over a damaging bullying controversy.

With a new minister chosen, the Victorian government is hoping to move on quickly from a damaging and divisive bullying controversy.

Upper House MP Philip Dalidakis was on Friday announced as the replacement for Adem Somyurek in the ministries of small business, innovation and trade.

"I have a commercial and finance background. I've run my own small business. I've worked in the private sector," Mr Dalidakis told reporters on Friday.

"I'd like to think that those experiences, plus the experiences I've had in public policy settings over the past 10 years, will hold me in good stead."

Under Labor's system, Mr Somyurek's faction chose his replacement.

Mr Somyurek was forced to resign after a report found he grabbed the arm and chin of his chief of staff and sacked a colleague who stood up for her.

In an extraordinary press conference, which Mr Somyurek later recanted from, he called for the deputy premier and a senior staffer to resign and described his ousting as a factional hit.
