Victorians receive Australia Day honours

Former House of Representatives Speaker Anna Burke and more than 100 Victorians will collect their Australia Day honours in a ceremony at Government House.

Former federal lower house speaker Anna Burke will be among more than 120 people who will receive Australia Day honours and awards in a ceremony at Government House in Victoria.

Ms Burke will be awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia on Tuesday for her distinguished service to the Parliament of Australia and to the community.

The former Labor MP, who was a Deputy Speaker and Speaker during the tumultuous hung parliament from 2010 to 2013, left federal politics in 2016.

Ms Burke won five elections for Labor in the Victorian seat of Chisholm before stepping down at the 2016 poll.

Former AFL commission chairman Mike Fitzpatrick will also be awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to Australian Rules Football, business, and medical research.

ABC radio host Jon Faine will receive a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to the broadcast media as a radio presenter.

Governor Linda Dessau will also present awards to the the families of Private John Durkin, Private James Elmore, and Private Norman McArtney, who are being recognised for acts of gallantry during World War II.
