Shocking video footage has emerged showing a Melbourne train conductor attacking a man on a train platform in the city’s north.

The video, recorded by a passenger, shows the conductor punching and kicking the man while others try to intervene.

The conductor continues to punch the man after he tries to flee.

A bystander can be heard yelling: "No more, no more, that’s it."

The exchange reportedly started after the man allegedly abused a woman at Bradford Train Station.

The 46-year-old has since been charged with assault, News Limited reports.

The conductor has been stood down while a police investigation is carried out over the altercation.

In a statement, train operator V/Line said it was "Assisting Victoria Police with its investigation".
