Visa has launched a "digital wallet" feature allowing Australian shoppers to verify online purchases with a username and password.
The service, called V.me, eliminates the need to enter shipping, billing and account information for every purchase, Visa says.
Instead, users must enter their information into V.me just once. Thereafter they can pay via a username and password, provided the site has made V.me available.
Thirteen retailers including Flight Centre, Cotton On, and Scoopon have already signed up for the service, which launched on Wednesday.
A Visa representative said more were expected to sign on in 2014.
The feature is not limited to Visa cards. MasterCard and American Express cards are also compatible.
It was launched alongside in-house Visa research which reportedly found that 43 per cent of 18-29 year-olds and 37 per cent of 30-49 year-olds prefer to shop online than in-store.
The survey of 1000 consumers showed 35 per cent of men preferred shopping online, compared with 28 per cent of women.
