Vodafone Australia is leveraging its global ties to speed up data roaming.
The telco has announced a plan to switch on 4G international roaming "mid-year" for Australians travelling to New Zealand, the UK and 15 countries in Europe.
Australians who roam with Vodafone currently use slower 3G networks.
The upgrade will complement the telco's so-called Red plans, launched last August, which offer customers the option of paying a daily $5 fee to use their regular text, data, and call allowance overseas.
"4G roaming is easy to use and typically less expensive than many hotel wi-fi connections," said Benoit Hanssen, Vodafone's chief technology officer.
"Vodafone Australia is in an enviable position with the largest global network at its fingertips."
