Volleyroos downed in four sets by Iran

The Australian men's volleyball team have suffered a four-set defeat to Iran in the second round of the World Championship.

Australia's maiden appearance in the second round of the men's volleyball World Championship hasn't gone exactly to plan, with Iran triumphing in a four-set clash.

Iran, one of the form team's of the tournament, raced to a healthy lead having claimed the opening two sets 25-23 and 25-21 before Australia scrapped to win the third 25-21.

That was where the fightback ended, however, as Iran charged to an 18-8 lead before eventually taking the set 25-17.

The Volleyroos will now face an in-form France, who they beat in a five-set thriller in Sydney to qualify for the final of the World League, in search of a second round victory on Friday AEST.
