Volleyroos win first World Grand Prix game

The Australian women's volleyball team, the Volleyroos, have won their first FIVB World Grand Prix game since joining the international competition in 2014.

Australia's women's volleyball team have claimed their first win in the FIVB World Grand Prix after almost four years of losing on international courts.

On the back of 25 points from star opposite hitter Rachel Rourke, including 11 aces, Australia beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-23).

The Volleyroos have been in group three of the tournament since 2014, playing their first Grand Prix match in Kazakhstan, but it was on Sunday night in Mexico against Trinidad and Tobago that the team finally came out on top.

It was also their first win in an international FIVB competition, outside of the Sydney 2000 Olympics, since 1982, according to Volleyball Australia.

Australia face Trinidad and Tobago for a rematch on Friday, then Cameroon and France over the weekend.

Rourke said the win has changed the team's mindset to believe they can "fight against all these teams as equals" from now on.
