Voters back cut in super tax breaks: poll

An opinion poll shows more than 60 per cent of voters favour the government raising the tax rate on superannuation contributions by high-income earners.

Six out of 10 voters support increasing the tax on superannuation contributions for high-income earners, a poll shows.

Reducing existing tax breaks by up to 20 percentage points is one of the options the government is examining as part of its tax review.

The Newspoll, published in The Australian on Wednesday, shows 62 per cent of voters in favour of the government raising the tax rate on superannuation contributions by high-income earners, while 27 per cent were opposed and 11 per cent undecided.
