The West Australian opposition has conceded there's a "communication gap" in the seat of Darling Range with many voters unaware of the by-election happening this month.
Liberal leader Mike Nahan said people were unfamiliar with the downfall of disgraced Labor-turned-independent MP Barry Urban, who quit parliament after a web of lies about his work and education history was exposed.
Dr Nahan said many voters were also unfamiliar with the controversy surrounding Labor's former candidate Colleen Yates, who pulled out of the race over exaggerations in her online resume, and was replaced by Tania Lawrence.
"It's not well known. It depends where you are, it's a very diverse electorate ... up in the hills they do, and down in the flats where many of them have just moved into their houses they don't," he told reporters on Tuesday.
"Many of them don't know there's an election on, or don't know why there's an election on, so there's a communication gap out there."
Dr Nahan also revealed the Liberal party would not make any preference deals.
"The alterative party is the Labor party - we will always put them near last if not last," he said.
"We are more concerned about the Greens than any other party.
"The Liberal party will be coming out with its ranking but there will be no preference deals."
The by-election will be held on June 23.
