Voters want Jones, expect Newman: poll

A new poll of the residents of Ashgrove has found the majority intend to vote for Labor's Kate Jones, but still expect the premier to retain his seat.

Most Ashgrove residents plan on voting for Labor's Kate Jones, but still think Campbell Newman will win, a new poll has found.

The ReachTEL survey found 47.6 per cent of people intended to give their first preference to Jones.

Premier Newman trailed behind on 43.7 per cent.

However, when asked who they think will claim the hotly contested electorate, despite their own voting intentions, the majority backed Mr Newman to retain his seat.

The results showed 48.6 per cent thought Jones could clinch it - compared to the 51.4 per cent tipping the premier.

The poll, which was commissioned by Seven News, surveyed 847 residents of the electorate on Tuesday night.

Queenslander head to the polls on January 31.
