A fast-moving, out-of-control and unpredictable bushfire is posing a possible threat to lives and homes north of Perth.

A watch-and-act alert was issued for parts of Regans Ford, Red Gully, Mindarra, Yathroo, Gillingarra and Mogumber on Thursday afternoon.

People in the area are warned they need to leave or get ready to actively defend their property.
