Residents in the western parts of Gooseberry Hill were told to leave or get ready to actively defend their homes from a bushfire.

A watch and act warning had been in place for people in the area bound by Watsonia Road, north of Goosberry Hill Road, east of Kalamunda Road and south of Ridge Hill Road.

It was previously an emergency warning.

An earlier bushfire threatening lives and homes about 13 kilometres to the west of the major South West WA town of Albany has also been downgraded to a watch and act.
