WA child hospitalised with meningococcal

A child has been hospitalised in West Australia with potentially deadly meningococcal disease.

A child is recovering in a West Australian hospital after being diagnosed with serogroup W meningococcal disease a day after an adult was also hospitalised.

There have been 16 cases of meningococcal disease reported so far in WA this year.

A total of 46 cases were notified in WA last year, which is double the number reported in 2016 and the most in any year since 2005.
