WA family of child set on fire distraught

The uncle of a four-year-old girl who was allegedly set on fire by her father in a Perth home says the family are distraught.

A four-year-old girl remains in a critical but stable condition in a Perth hospital after her father allegedly set her on fire.

Edward John Herbert, 43, allegedly poured a liquid and set fire to his son and two daughters inside the family's Doubleview home, north of Perth, on Saturday.

An off-duty officer rescued the children and took them to a nearby residence to provide emergency first aid.

The youngest child, a girl who turned four on Monday, is being treated at Princess Margaret Hospital for extensive burns.

Her seven-year-old sister and six-year-old brother were discharged from hospital earlier in the week.

Their uncle Stan Headland told the Nine Network the family was distraught.

"She'll never be the beautiful little girl again like she was last week," Mr Headland said.

Herbert is facing five charges, including two counts of grievous bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
