WA greyhound sector says no baiting links

While Animals Australia assesses information about WA's greyhound racing industry, the racing body says it doesn't believe live baiting is occurring in WA.

Racing and Wagering Western Australia says it's not aware of live baiting in the state's greyhound industry after revelations of the practice in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

An ABC TV investigation aired on Monday showed some trainers are illegally blooding dogs with live piglets, rabbits and possums.

While Animals Australia says it is assessing information about live baiting in the west, RWWA says it doesn't believe the practice is occurring in the state.

General manager of racing integrity Denis Borovica said he had enquired with RSPCA WA and didn't believe "at this stage" that the 70 people named in the investigation had any connection to the state's greyhound industry.

"Nothing has been communicated to us to make that link," he told AAP.

Mr Borovica said RWWA was regularly surveilling WA's three official trial tracks and also private tracks "whenever we need to from time to time".

He said RWWA also had its "ear to the ground".

"If there was rumour or any innuendo floating around, that would be directing us to where we need to focus our attention."

Mr Borovica said RWWA prosecuted some West Australian greyhound trainers for live baiting in the 1990s.

Earlier this month, Linda Britton was crowned the state's top greyhound trainer despite being disqualified for 18 months for doping her star dog Zelemar Fever.
