WA immigration detainee still on the run

WA Police continue to search for an Indian immigration detainee who escaped custody while on an excursion in Perth.

An Indian immigration detainee is still missing in Perth after escaping custody while on an excursion.

The detainee was staying at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre near Northam but is believed to have been at a Sikh temple in Bayswater when he fled from guards on Tuesday.

The incident is the latest in a string of escapes by detainees in Western Australia.

In June, a Vietnamese man escaped from Serco guards at Perth Airport while he was being deported.

Another Vietnamese man escaped from Serco guards in Perth's CBD in January, sparking a city-wide manhunt in which police swarmed shopping malls and cafes.

There have also been several escapes from Yongah Hill detention centre over the past 12 months, including an incident in January where three men took just 45 seconds to break out.
