Australia is becoming more diverse, and so are the languages spoken across the country.

A surge of migrants in Western Australia has seen increased interest from the broader community to learn the languages spoken within newer communities.

The state government has announced, over the next year, $230,000 will go to improving the curriculum and teaching skills of professionals at after hours language schools.

West Australian Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Minister Mike Nahan says, in the past, community language programs have had little support.

But has told Abbie O'Brien the increase in funding will let the programs flourish.
