WA man charged with taxi driver's murder

A 46-year-old man has been charged with murdering a West Australian taxi driver south of Perth in April last year.

A West Australian man has been charged with murdering a taxi driver almost a year ago.

Police allege Grant Lindon Collard, 46, was a passenger in a taxi being driven by Lindsay Terrance Ferguson, which crashed at an intersection in Mandurah, south of Perth, on April 24.

Mr Ferguson, 67, died at the scene.

It is alleged Collard threatened Mr Ferguson while armed with a weapon and then damaged the taxi's radio and dashboard.

Collard was previously charged with assaulting the driver of a passenger vehicle with aggravating circumstances, deprivation of liberty, criminal damage and threats with intent to compel an act.

He was also charged with two counts of threat with intent to gain benefit.

Collard is due back in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday to face those offences and the new charge of murder.
