WA man linked to child abuse ring charged

A former Perth TAFE teacher has been charged with possessing child exploitation material after being investigated under Operation Thunderer.

Another West Australian man has been arrested and charged as part of a global police investigation into an international child abuse ring.

Six men from WA - priests, teachers and a policeman - were last week charged with various offences related to their alleged involvement in a Canadian-hosted website that allowed customers to trade and purchase child sex images and videos.

They were among dozens of Australian men swooped on by federal and state police under Operation Thunderer.

On Monday, WA Police said there had been seventh arrest in the state, this time a 62-year-old man who had been a teacher at a Perth metropolitan TAFE.

He has been charged with one count of possess child exploitation material after a search of his Gooseberry Hill home.

Police say they seized several laptops, hard drives, DVDs and CDs.

They allege more than 1500 images and 167 videos of child exploitation material of varying categories were found on the devices.

The man is due to appear in the Midland Magistrates Court on December 20.
