WA man seeks aid over child sex charges

A West Australian man facing 10 charges of sexual offending against a girl has appeared briefly in court, indicating he will apply for legal aid.

One of eight West Australian men charged with sexual offences related to a 13-year-old girl will apply for legal aid.

Mark Wesley Liggins, 47, appeared briefly in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with 10 offences including intending to procure a child for sexual activity, intending to expose a child to indecent matter and possessing child exploitation material.

He is not charged with sexually assaulting the girl, but others allegedly involved in the case face such serious charges.

The magistrate granted Liggins a four-week adjournment so he could make an application for legal aid, and his bail was renewed.

The girl's father, who cannot be named, is also accused of being one of her abusers and allegedly organised for the other men to meet her when she was aged from 11 to 13.

The eight men face a total of 503 charges.

One of the girl's abusers was allegedly in possession of 200,000 videos and four million child pornography images.

The girl is now in care and receiving treatment.

One of her abusers was Christian preacher David Volmer, 41, who pleaded guilty last month to 12 charges.

The other accused men are: 45-year-old Alfred John Impicciatore, whose bail was revoked last week; 35-year-old Nicholas Adam Beer; 41-year-old Troy Phillip Milbourne; 42-year-old Ryan Trevor Clegg; and 47-year-old Benjamin Simon Clarke.
