Fallen former West Australian treasurer Troy Buswell could be forced to pay the $14,700 damage bill for his crashed ministerial car, the premier says.
Colin Barnett said the state government's insurer Risk Cover had sought legal advice as to whether it could recover the repair cost as well as the estimated $12,000 in damages to several other cars Mr Buswell crashed into in February.
"That is a matter I will leave to them and their lawyers," Mr Barnett said.
Mr Buswell was fined and had his driver's licence suspended after he pleaded guilty to 11 traffic offences in relation to the late-night incident, during which he also crashed into a pole and the front gate of his Subiaco home while returning from a wedding.
Opposition leader Mark McGowan said it was disgraceful taxpayers might have to foot Mr Buswell's damage bill and the state government should make him pay.
"How can the government at any stage make points on law and order or issues to do with road safety or drink driving when they allow that sort of thing to go on in their ranks?" Mr McGowan told ABC radio on Wednesday.
A police review into the February 23 incident is due to be tabled in state parliament on Thursday.
The Community Development and Justice Standing Committee review included examining the police investigation into the incident on the night in question and any decision to prosecute Mr Buswell.
Mr Buswell remains the MP for Vasse.
