Police threats to work to rule if they aren't made exempt from planned laws capping their wages have been dismissed by the West Australian government.
The police union argues officers should be exempt from a new Workforce Reform Bill currently before state parliament that would make public sector workers subject to a new wages policy, capping salary increases in line with inflation.
The union argues police are a special case, saying their conditions are unique.
Police perform dangerous duties and are the only group of WA government employees with legislated restricted access to the Industrial Relations Amendment Act, the union said in a submission.
It also says members won't accept a 2.5 per cent wage rise when the current agreement expires on June 30.
Attorney General Michael Mischin said police would not be treated as a special case.
The WA government is undertaking a cost-cutting program in the public sector in a bid to improve its debt-laden balance sheet.
