WA reluctantly accepts remote housing deal

The WA government has begrudgingly agreed to a $121 million remote housing funding offer, but is counting on federal Labor win next year for a long-term deal.

The West Australian government has begrudgingly accepted an improved offer from the Commonwealth for remote housing funding.

A 10 year, $1.1 billion deal ended on June 30 and WA rejected an initial offer of $60 million over three years, but has now agreed to a $121 million deal for 2018-19.

The Commonwealth holds the view that this will be a final contribution before the state takes over complete responsibility, but WA "reserves its right to negotiate with any future federal government" for a long-term funding arrangement.
