WA stargazers eye Saturn moon of Titan

Perth stargazers will have only four minutes to record a cosmic event that could shed light on the question about life existing beyond Earth.

A four-minute window on an event occurring about 1.2 billion kilometres from Earth has Perth stargazers in a frenzy.

When Saturn's biggest moon, Titan, passes in front of a star for the first time in 15 years on Wednesday scientist will use the short timeframe to make atmospheric measurements.

"In Titan, there is evidence now that there is an ocean of liquid water underneath frozen methane gas. If there is liquid water, there is always the possibility of life," University of WA Associate Professor David Coward told Perth Now on Monday.
