WA teen flies Aussie flag at Royal Pines

There's no Karrie Webb so teenage amateur Minjee Lee is flying the flag for Australia going into the final round of the Australian Ladies Masters.

In the absence of eight-time winner Karrie Webb it's been left to a West Australian teenager to fly the flag for Australia at the Australian Ladies Masters on the Gold Coast.

With Webb, 39, cooling her heels after her disqualification for signing an incorrect scorecard after her second round on Friday, Lee stepped into the breach with a four-under 69 in her third round at Royal Pines on Saturday.

Lee is 10-under for the tournament, two shots behind leader Cheyenne Woods going into the final round.

The two-time Australian amateur champion made the most of some low scoring by the leaders to put herself right in contention with a six-birdie, two-bogey round.

It means the 17-year-old will now chase the biggest honour of her career on Sunday and if Lee was showing any nerves she hardly showed it.

"This is what every golfer wants really," she said.

"I'll just play my own game and, yeah, see where it takes me."

While fellow Australian Alison Whitaker (69) faded on the last two holes of her round, dropping three shots, Lee picked up birdies on the par-4 17th and par-5 18th to come home strong.

She said a dropped shot on the par-3 14th had been the shock to the system she needed to end her round well.

"It shouldn't have happened but, you know, it's golf," she said.

"It was really not that good so I was like make up for it and made a couple of birdies on the way in."
