Sydney Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has not been charged by the NRL match review committee for an alleged elbow on Newcastle forward Jeremy Smith.

The Knights were fuming after Saturday's 29-12 loss to the premiers, claiming Waerea-Hargreaves deliberately targeted opponents with his elbows while in possession of the ball.

But in charges released on Monday, the NRL found the former Kiwi international had no case to answer.

Ahead of Gold Coast's clash with Melbourne on Monday night, the NRL has issued no charges from round 14.
