Sydney Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will miss up to six weeks of NRL action after scans showed the Kiwi enforcer had strained a pectoral muscle.

It was originally feared Waerea-Hargreaves may miss the season after sustaining the injury during the Roosters' defeat by Melbourne on Saturday night.

The injury also means the New Zealand forward will be unavailable for the Test match against Australia in Brisbane on May 1.
