Waite, Brown to focus on Roos win in AFL

Jarrad Waite says there will be no private goalkicking competition between himself and fellow North Melbourne key forward Ben Brown on Sunday.

Jarrad Waite's priority is to end his AFL career with a win, rather than suffer a spray from North Melbourne coach Brad Scott.

So there will be no private goalkicking competition between Waite and fellow Kangaroos key forward Ben Brown in Sunday's match against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Waite has announced that Sunday will close his 243-game, 374-goal career.

Brown started round 23 two goals short of Richmond's Jack Riewoldt for the Coleman Medal lead, with Sydney's Lance Franklin and Geelong's Tom Hawkins also contenders.

Waite said there would be no temptation for him to try to bow out with a "bag", or for the Kangaroos to target Brown in attack more than usual.

"If we went down that path, I think Scotty would rip through us - even in my last game," Waite said.

"I've played a certain way for my whole career and I would never do that, not even in my last game.

"We just want to get the win against St Kilda.

"It's not spoken about and it's just how we play, our structure."

Waite said Brown's Coleman hunt would take care of itself, provided North stick to their game plan.

"If he's in the right position and we go to him and he gets opportunities ... we always go to him anyway, because he's such a clear one-on-one and such a good mark," Waite said.

"But it's not something we're going to focus on.

"If we went away from that, we've gone away from our whole game plan, if we're going to focus on one player."

Scott said during the week that the Kangaroos would dearly love to finish off their encouraging season with a win.

They were tipped widely to wallow in the bottom four, but if they beat the Saints they will finish ninth.

"Even though I won't be here next year, it's a really big focus on getting stuff going for next year,"' Waite said.

"The times we've lost that last game, it's hurt.

"St Kilda went really well against Hawthorn (last week)... we know if we take the foot off, and the whole season has shown that - if teams aren't performing at 100 per cent, they get shown up.

"We just want the win because it does set up the pre-season and it puts you in a better pre-season mood."
