Star winger George North has been ruled out of Wales' tour of New Zealand after suffering a hamstring injury in the first Test in Auckland.

North was injured in the final move in Wales' 39-21 loss to the All Blacks on Saturday, and has now been released from Warren Gatland's squad.

"George North has been ruled out of Wales' tour of New Zealand and has been released from the squad," a statement from the Welsh Rugby Union said on Monday.

Rhys Patchell was called up on Saturday following the injury, while Gatland has brought in 18-year-old Keelan Giles from the Wales Under-20s squad currently competing in the Junior World Cup in Manchester.

Giles, of the Ospreys, scored twice in the opening game of that tournament last week against Ireland and will link immediately with the squad.

Wales are due to face two-time Super Rugby champions the Chiefs on Tuesday, with the next Test set for Saturday at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
