Key forward Taylor Walker believes something special is brewing at Adelaide ahead of his third AFL season as the club's captain.

Walker will head a six-man leadership group at the Crows featuring two newcomers, goalsneak Eddie Betts and Tom Lynch.

Ruckman Sam Jacobs, onballler Richard Douglas and retired ex-skipper Nathan van Berlo are missing from last season's seven-man group.

"All the actions and behaviours from my peers, my mates inside, we're clear with the vision as a footy club on where we want to go," Walker told reporters on Monday.

"And I think we have got some special talent. We have got a mentality to work hard.

"And when you get those two put together I'm pretty confident that we'll get what we want."

Midfielder Rory Sloane will again by Walker's deputy at Adelaide, who were beaten semi-finalists last season.

Defender Daniel Talia and evergreen Scott Thompson round out the leadership group.

Walker, 26, was last season named the league's captain of the year by the AFL Players' Association.

"I quite enjoy building relationships with a range of different people throughout the footy club, especially all the players and coaches," he said.

"So I'm looking forward to building on that and looking forward to the challenges ahead and the good times.

" ... We have got something special going on at this footy club and I'm really honoured and proud to be able to lead this footy club again.

"To be honest, I don't think I will ever feel comfortable in the role, I'm still learning, still developing and there's still challenges that sometimes arise."

Walker said he had already implored Jacobs and Douglas to continue as influences at the club, despite dropping out of the player-voted leadership group.

"I have told them both that I will still lean on them for their experience and knowledge," he said, .

"It's peer-voted.

"But I have told Sauce (Jacobs) I'm still going to lean on him ... I'm sure he's disappointed, he's a proud guy.

"But I have got no doubt Sauce ... will continue on the way he normally does."
