Wallabies flanker Michael Hooper will appear at a SANZAR judicial hearing on Wednesday and is in danger of missing the Rugby Championship decider against New Zealand, after being cited for foul play in Sunday's away win over Argentina.
The backrower was cited for punching Pumas five-eighth Nicolas Sanchez in an off-the-ball incident in the 59th minute of the match which Australia won 34-9.
It occurred just before forward Dean Mumm crashed over for the Wallabies' second try.
Even a minimum suspension of one game would rule Hooper out of the RC decider and first Bledisloe Cup match against the All Blacks at ANZ Stadium on August 8.
The matter was initially referred to duty judicial officer Chris Morris.
It could have been resolved at that point had Hooper pleaded guilty and accepted a penalty offered by Morris.
The judicial officer for the hearing will be Nigel Hampton QC.
It will be held on Wednesday at 7pm AEST.
